David Abinye Jumbo, who records as Mr 2Kay.

Born 11 February 1988 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. His family moved to Bonny Island, in Rivers State, where he grew up. He drew portraits before he made music.

His music career began in Port Harcourt. From 2011 until 2018 his work was released under Grafton: the breakout single “Waterside Boy” (21 August 2011); the international breakout “Bubugaga” (8 October 2012), with a video shot in London and directed by Nosa Igbinedion; the albums Waterside Boy (2012) and Elevated (2018); the EP Count It All Joy (February 2016); and singles that include “Bad Girl Special” with Patoranking (the remix, with Cynthia Morgan and Seyi Shay, was nominated for Best Reggae/Dancehall Single at The Headies in 2015) and “Banging” (2018, with Reekado Banks).

Videos across the run were directed by Clarence Peters, Adasa Cookey and Nosa Igbinedion.

In 2018 he left Grafton and started Better Life Entertainment as his own imprint. The album Concentrate followed in December 2019, the first release under it.

An artist who had been through the major-label system, building the structure he wanted instead of asking for it.
